The effects of Anti-Wrinkle injections typically last for about 3 to 6 months. This is because Anti-wrinkle injections work by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines, and over time, the muscle activity gradually returns to normal. Dermal fillers, which are used to add volume and plumpness to areas of the face, can have longer-lasting results – up to 8 or 9 months. A top-up treatment can prolong these results.

It varies by treatment. With dermal fillers you’ll usually see a difference straight away, since they add volume immediately, though a little initial swelling means the final look settles over the following days. Anti-wrinkle treatments work more gradually, with the effect typically becoming noticeable over the first few days and reaching its full result within a couple of weeks.

Either way, it’s worth not judging the outcome on day one. We’ll let you know when to expect the finished result, and for some treatments we’ll see you for a review to check you’re happy and make any small adjustments.

Not everyone, and a consultation is there precisely to check. Facial aesthetic treatments aren’t suitable during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and certain health conditions, allergies or medications can mean a particular treatment isn’t right for you. There’s also a legal age limit: these treatments can’t be provided to anyone under 18 for cosmetic reasons.

Beyond safety, we’ll talk honestly about whether a treatment will actually achieve what you’re hoping for. If it isn’t the right option, or your goals would be better met another way, we’ll tell you. We’d always rather have that conversation than carry out a treatment that isn’t right for you.

The safety of any injectable treatment rests heavily on the training and experience of the person carrying it out. Your face has a complex structure of muscles, nerves and blood vessels, and treating it well takes a proper understanding of that anatomy. This is why we’d always caution against being tempted by unusually cheap deals or unregulated providers.

Most people find these treatments very tolerable rather than painful. The injections use very fine needles, and any discomfort is usually brief, more of a quick sharp sensation or mild stinging than real pain. Some areas are a little more sensitive than others, the lips being a common example, and for those we can apply a numbing cream beforehand to keep you comfortable.
